A fog rolled in to our sad old town
as high as the heavens and miles around
when dawn had broke the old man strolled in
looking for a meal and a stay at the inn
His tattered hooded robe hid his tattered silver hair
but nothing could hide the magic in the air
Mary-Lynn at the inn asked what he could pay
with a wink of his eye, he sent the mist away
From a distant land with his staff in his hand
who knows why we were blessed to cross the path of the wizard of the west
He wanders the land looking for stones and tomes
does trick for drinks and the occasional home
when the fire would die, he'd wave his hand
the embers would glow from his command
He'd laze out on our porches to speak with the horses
stop bullets in mid air with his magical forces
sometimes he'd change his face, sometimes he's disappear
sometimes he'd find a glass of scotch behind your ear
From a distant land with his staff in his hand
who knows why we were blessed to cross the path of the wizard of the west
One night , in the light of Joe's saloon
4 men stormed in looking for loot
the old man stood up just a hair too late
to stop the fire from the springfield 58
the crowd screamed loud when the wizard fell down
gone was the joy we'd found in our town
our knees on the ground and our hands in the air
The magic in the air, now deep despair
They asked and we gave to avoid our graves
Some cried, some begged, and the rest of us prayed
Just then the men turned and froze
where the old man fell down, the wizard aroze
Lightning from his hand killed the band
laid to rest for messing with the wizard of the west
From a distant land with his staff in his hand
who knows why we were blessed to cross the path of the wizard of the west
